This workout is dedicated to Jessie Marchi who passed away from breast cancer on April 11, 2016.
Jessie was a high school social worker in the Green Bay Wi public school district working 50+ hour work weeks until 8 weeks before she passed. She was survived by her husband Mark, sons Jacob and Jonah, and daughter Bella.
This workout was designed by Andi Igowsky @barbells_and_babyteeth, Jessie’s sister-in-law, a CrossFit L-1 coach and practicing Pediatric Dentist and Philanthropist. It was first performed at CrossFit Sheboygan, then adopted by CrossFit Eastern Ridge @crossfiteasternridge (Sheboygan, WI, USA). The gym programs or modifies this workout for all athletes at the gym, including for their special needs adults program.
After a battle with breast cancer, Jessie succumbed at the young age of 45, hence the 45 reps of every movement. Jessie used exercise and nutrition throughout her battle with cancer to stay healthy and attributed that to her extended life. The 16-minute cap is the age the last birthday she wanted to see of her youngest daughter, which she, unfortunately, did not make.
The WOD has was featured as a fundraiser for Barbells for Boobs @barbellsforboobs.
